Finance Workshop

The 2025 Finance Workshop, organized by Sabancı Business School, was held on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the historic Minerva Han in Karaköy, Istanbul, with strong participation.

Focusing on the theme of Sustainable Finance, this year’s workshop brought together leading academics and researchers to shed light on the future of finance.

The event commenced with brief opening remarks by the hosts from Sabancı Business School. It was followed by a keynote presentation from Prof. Kai Li (University of British Columbia, Canada), titled "Green Products", which emphasized the rising importance of environmentally friendly financial instruments.

In the second session of the day, Julian Koelbel (Swiss Finance Institute) delivered his talk, "The Puzzle of ESG Fund Fees", providing insights into the complexities of fund fees based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria.

Following the lunch break, Vesa Pursiainen (Swiss Finance Institute) presented "The Carbon Cost of Competitive Pressure", examining the impact of competitive pressure on carbon emissions.

Later in the afternoon, Emirhan Ilhan (National University of Singapore) shared his research titled "Sea Level Rise and Portfolio Choice", exploring the implications of climate change on financial decision-making.

The final session of the day featured the Hakan Orbay Research Award Ceremony, held in memory of the esteemed faculty member of Sabancı Business School. This year’s award was presented to Jeong Ho Kim (Florida State University), who gave an in-depth presentation titled "Optimal Communication in Banking Supervision", highlighting the critical role of effective communication in financial regulation.
